Zhengzhou Yayuan Technology: Phase I of 600m³ Sponge City Rainwater Harvesting & Reuse System Project at BYD Zhengzhou Airport Zone Successfully Completed

Zhengzhou, Sep 21, 2026 — Recently, Zhengzhou Yayuan Rainwater Utilization Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as Zhengzhou Yayuan Technology) announced the milestone progress of its 600 cubic meters sponge city rainwater harvesting and reuse system project at BYD New Energy Vehicle Industrial Park in Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone. After two consecutive days of construction on September 20–21, the Phase I PP module rainwater collection system was successfully finished, marking the full completion of the main structure of the rainwater storage tank. This lays a solid foundation for subsequent electromechanical installation and system commissioning.

Two Days of Intensive Work: Main Body of Phase I PP Module Storage Tank Completed

The completed Phase I project features a core 600m³ PP modular rainwater harvesting tank. From September 20 to 21, the construction team of Zhengzhou Yayuan Technology arrived at the BYD industrial park site to carry out module hoisting, assembly and tank sealing operations. During construction, the team strictly complied with sponge city construction standards and adopted the company’s self-developed high-load-bearing PP rainwater collection modules to complete overall assembly and structural reinforcement of the tank.

Built with split modular assembly technology, the tank achieves a void ratio of 90%–95%, with bearing capacity of 40–70 tons per square meter. Its working temperature ranges from -30℃ to 120℃, adapting to the large temperature fluctuations in Zhengzhou’s climate. Modular construction greatly shortens on-site work cycles. In addition, greening or hard pavement can be constructed directly on top of the tank without occupying extra space within the park.

According to Zhang Zhenqiao, on-site construction manager, upon completion of Phase I, the tank is capable of rainwater storage. Its sealing performance and structural stability meet all design requirements. The project will now move to electromechanical installation, including assembly and connection of water pump sets, filtration & disinfection equipment, intelligent control systems and matching pipelines.

Next Steps: Electromechanical Installation and System Commissioning to Kick Off

Person in charge of the project from Zhengzhou Yayuan Technology stated that after finishing the main tank of Phase I, the company will press ahead with follow-up works. The electromechanical installation phase will focus on assembling rainwater lift pumps, rainwater intercepting & discarding devices, multi-stage filtration systems and disinfection equipment, as well as building an intelligent monitoring platform to realize automatic management of the whole process: rainwater collection, purification and reuse.

After electromechanical installation, system commissioning will be launched. Comprehensive tests will be conducted for rainwater collection efficiency, water purification performance and stable water supply for reuse. Once fully operational, collected and purified rainwater will meet the quality standard for urban miscellaneous water. It will be mainly used for park green irrigation, road washing and partial auxiliary production water for BYD. During heavy summer rainfall, the system can also effectively reduce rainwater runoff peak within the park and relieve pressure on the surrounding municipal drainage network.
