In municipal drainage projects, these are heavily utilized in rainwater harvesting and stormwater management systems, which is why they are often referred to simply as Stormwater Manholes.

Unlike the silt trap variant, a Flow Channel Manhole base does not have a sediment chamber. Instead, its bottom features a smooth, contoured channel (bench flow) designed to guide wastewater through swiftly without interruption.
Because sewage contains organic waste that should not be left to sit and stagnate, these manholes are designed to keep the water moving, which is why they are commonly called Sewage Manholes.
